Our stay: The 5-star Corinthia Hotel London

While in London, England we were invited to The Corinthia Hotel, which is perfectly positioned in the heart of London. This 5-star hotel is within easy walking distance of Trafalgar Square, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, the National Gallery, the Southbank Centre, and the London Eye. A short stroll will take you to Buckingham Palace, West End theatres, Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus, and the fashionable Regent Street and Bond Street for designer shopping.

You can feel the luxury of the hotel the moment you walk through the glass French doors and into the grand lobby. This luxury include marble floors, decadent fresh cut flowers, dark wood accents mixed with modern, all-white architecture. A giant chandelier, called ‘The Full Moon’, floods the adjoining high-tea seating area with light and a royal ambience. Designed by Chafik Gasmi, the chandelier is certainly a nod to the importance that art and architecture play in the overall design scheme of the hotel.

We are greeted by Henrietta. A lovely women, dressed smart with killer heels, sleek and short brunette hair and a relaxed demeanor.

She welcomes us to the hotel and instantly puts us at ease. After a bit of back and forth conversation she asks “Would you like to see the room?”

As we walked into the room, our senses were almost overwhelmed.

Felling as though we had stepped into our own private mansion, the Hamilton Penthouse is the epitome of posh! The two-floor penthouse makes its own statement as you walk through the front door. With a winding, decorative stair case to your left and hand-painted trellis patterns, we felt the hustle and bustle of busy London fade away as we walked further into our own private oasis.

The Corinthia Hotel offers 7 of these luxury penthouses, each with their own personal theme and décor. These are some of the biggest suites in London and offer unbeatable views of the city with the adjoining private terraces. The Royal Penthouse can be connected to another suite to create one of the biggest hotel rooms we have ever seen. The Royal Penthouse was booked during our stay, with rumours swirling around the city that a huge entertainer was vacationing there while attending London Fashion Week. No matter how hard we tried, she was tight-lipped on who was staying in the massive suite. Privacy and security is top priority with The Corinthia staff, which is why the rich and uber famous choose to stay here.

The award-winning spa, officially known as ESPA Life at The Corinthia, is located underneath the hotel and comprises three floors of pure, relaxing heaven. After stepping off the elevator on the first floor we’re greeted by spa staff who took us through some of the treatments the spa has to offer which includes hair & makeup, massage and acupuncture just to name a few. The main floor also offers a secret make-up room which, when the door closes, completely disappears into the hotel’s wall. The secret room (shown below) is quite large with a leather chair in the middle, surrounded by mirrors and several flat-screen monitors that can be turned-on to connect to Skype, satellite and more.

All this relaxation sure works up an appetite!

We had the pleasure of dining in one of the hotel’s 3 main restaurants, The Northall.

The kitchen, led by executive chef Garry Hollihead, uses high quality ingredients and creates inspired dishes based on what is in season and grown locally. During our stay it was tomatoes (pronounced Toe-mah-toes by our adorable British waiter).

The restaurant décor and presentation matched perfectly with the hotel. The menu offers diners English classics (Fish & Chips with mushy peas was £17) and modern dishes (Cornish Gurnard and Octopus Cooked en Papillote with Tomato and Smoked Paprika £25) at very reasonable prices. Our meal could have easily cost a few hundred pounds, and tasted good enough to justify that price, but with the affordability it could easily fit anyone’s travel budget! The restaurants are open to the public, making it the perfect spot for an impressive noche.
