Shoe Trends to Follow for Spring 2016

We’ve reached that point in the year when it’s time to start thinking about spring. This means there’s finally a chance to rock some new style thanks to the change in weather. Boots will stick around for a few more months while other styles make way for breathable slip-ons and colourful sneakers. These are a few of the biggest trends for the upcoming season that can help you put your best foot forward.

Oxfords

It might seem like an obvious choice, but it’s hard to argue against a classic Oxford. Every guy needs a good pair of dress shoes, and the Oxford always makes a strong statement and keeps you looking good season after season. Some guys might want to spice things up with a funky toe cap, but they’d be wrong. It has been suggested by Fashion Beans that it’s high time to ditch the square-toed shoes for a pair of round-toed Oxfords that will never go out of style. Dress shoes have come back in a big way, and you don’t have to necessarily pair them with a suit when you hit the streets.

High-Tops

You might have noticed artists and celebrities rocking some high-top sneakers with suits on more than a few red carpets this year. It’s no secret that 1990s style is back in a big way, and it’s brought a huge boost in the popularity of the ubiquitous basketball shoes. But it’s far more than just Air Jordans (as fly as those might be). As seen on Lyst, major designers are getting in on high-top haute couture with a wide variety of superb shoe styles from the likes of Versace, Rick Ownes, Hogan Rebel, The Last Conspiracy and more.

Slip-On Shoes

One item that people have noticed making its presence known on the runway is the slip-on shoe. Casual but fashionable takes on the slipper are set to be all the rage, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see this trend take off when it comes to fast fashion. We’re particularly partial to the business casual look from Burberry Prorsum seen on The Trend Spotter, as it offers a fresh take on the typical loafer. And it’s more than just loafers that are in vogue for this season. Espadrilles and slip-on sneakers are comfortable, street-ready styles to watch out for this spring.

Chelsea Boots

Combining the slip-on convenience with the utilitarian style of a rugged boot, we have the Chelsea boot. These were huge in 2015 and never really went out of style in the U.K. We’ve spotted more than a few in collections from O’Keefe and Maison Margiela, like those seen on Footwear News, that show this trend is sticking around for spring 2016. These lace-less boots are effortlessly stylish and also versatile enough to pair well with both casual wear and formal attire.
